Green Data Center
The Green Data Center of the University of Pisa is located in San Piero a Grado. It is classified among the top 62 Group A data centers out of 1,152 surveyed by AgID across the entire Italian public administration. The center uses the most advanced technologies to power a large number of servers while minimizing the energy costs associated with cooling.
The name “Green” comes from the environmentally conscious design, aimed at achieving the lowest possible environmental impact. Over a period of seven years, the center recorded an average PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of 1.2, meaning that for every kilowatt used for effective computing, only 200 additional watts were needed for cooling.
Through the dedicated Computing@UniPi service, the computing resources of the Data Center are made available to students, researchers, and faculty members of the University of Pisa for high-performance scientific computing. Users can access clusters (with or without GPUs) or request the independent allocation of virtual machines configured to meet their specific requirements.
